The Power of Becoming: Beyond New Year's Resolutions
Jan 08, 2025I'm exploring an intriguing concept called "Elegant Strategy," coined by Seth Godin. He reframes strategy not as a rigid map but as a compass guiding us toward who we're becoming. In his view, elegance combines simplicity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Recently, I joined Godin's PurpleSpace community, where we're diving deep into elegant strategy. Our current challenge is profound yet simple: envision who we will have become by December 2025. This exercise resonates deeply with my work in "The Art of Mattering," where I often pose a similar question: "Who do you want to become?"
I consistently encourage people to look beyond the doing and focus on being. The question isn't just about what you'll accomplish but who you'll be by December 2025. Change is inevitable – we can't remain static as life continuously shapes us. However, instead of passively letting life happen to us, we can intentionally transform.
So, in this season of abundant resolutions, I offer a different approach: Rather than listing what you'll do, ask yourself, "Who do I want to become?"
